Alright so today I wanted to meet those Basquet Girona players everyone talks about. Heard they were practicing downtown and figured, why not go see what the fuss is about? Grabbed my old camera and a notebook I found in the junk drawer.
The Scramble to Get Ready
First thing – my camera battery was dead. Like, completely dead. Had to dig through three boxes of cables looking for that stupid charger. Found it covered in dust behind the toaster. Plugged it in and started stressing cause it was already 10 AM and practice started at 11. While waiting, I scribbled some questions in my notebook: “Do you get tired?” and “What do you eat?” Real deep stuff, I know.
Threw on my least wrinkled shirt, forgot my water bottle, locked myself out, had to climb through the back window – total mess. Finally jumped on the bus sweating like crazy.
At the Court Chaos
Got there and holy cow, way more people than I expected. Squeezed through a bunch of tall dudes with fancy cameras while I’m holding my beat-up point-and-shoot. Saw the players warming up. Way bigger in person. Tried taking photos but my hands were shaky. Most looked like blurry giants. Took a deep breath and shoved my way to the front.
- Tripped over someone’s gym bag trying to get near Player #7
- Dropped my notebook when Player #11 looked my way
- Asked Player #9 my “what do you eat” question – he just smiled and said “chicken”
My old camera started beeping – battery dying AGAIN. Got maybe three decent shots before it quit. One security guy kept eyeballing me probably cause I looked like a lost tourist.
Leaving (Mostly) Empty-Handed
Practiced ended. Players vanished faster than ice cream in July. Didn’t get any autographs. Forgot my pen. Camera dead. Notebook had a ketchup stain from lunch. Felt kinda stupid standing there with my dead gear.
BUT I saw Player #5 do this insane dunk during practice. Felt the WHOOSH when he jumped. Worth the bus fare and climbing through my stupid window just for that. Next time? I’m bringing a power bank. And maybe better questions. And NOT climbing through windows.
