Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Dudley High basketball, y’know, the kinda stuff them youngsters get up to these days. Them fellas runnin’ up and down the court, throwin’ that orange ball around. I ain’t never played the game myself, too busy milkin’ cows and tendin’ to the chickens, but it seems like a mighty popular thing.
Now, I hear tell Dudley High, they got themselves a basketball team, the Panthers they call ’em. Sounds fierce, don’t it? Like a buncha wild cats chasin’ after a mouse. They got boys and girls teams, I reckon, playin’ all sorts of other schools. Page High, that’s one I’ve heard of. Seems like they got a bit of a rivalry goin’ on there, always tryin’ to outdo each other.
I saw somethin’ online, they call it a “schedule.” Said it showed when Dudley plays who. Fancy thing, that internet. Said the games are at somethin’ called “1200 Lincoln St, Greensboro.” That’s a ways from here, I tell ya. But I guess folks go from all over to watch them kids play.
They got this girl, Lola Vanore, plays for Page I think. Folks say she’s a real good player. Dudley, they gotta watch out for her, seems like she gives ’em a hard time. You know, basketball ain’t just about throwin’ the ball. It’s about teamwork, they say. Gotta work together, pass the ball, and all that. Just like farmin’, I suppose. Can’t do it all by yourself, gotta have a good team, family helpin’ out.

- Heard tell they got a new coach comin’ in. Josh Prince, I think his name was. Used to coach Dudley, now he’s back or somethin’. Gotta be a good fella, know how to handle them young’uns.
This internet thing, it’s got all sorts of information. They got “news” about the team, scores, all that. Said somethin’ ’bout Dunbar High in Baltimore, way back when. Won a buncha games, real champions they were. Guess Dudley’s tryin’ to be like that, winnin’ all the time.
Dudley High, it’s more than just basketball, y’know. They got all sorts of sports, somethin’ for everyone. But right now, we’re talkin’ ’bout basketball, so let’s stick to that. Heard they’re lookin’ for a new head coach for the men’s team. Big job, that is. Gotta be tough, gotta be smart, gotta know how to handle them teenagers. They’re a handful, I tell ya.
Seems like this basketball thing is serious business. They got websites and cookies and all sorts of things trackin’ what you look at. Don’t know much about that, but sounds kinda nosy to me. I just wanna watch the game, see them kids runnin’ and jumpin’. That’s entertainment enough for an old lady like me.
So, Dudley High basketball, it’s a big deal, seems like. Got folks excited, got folks cheerin’, got folks comin’ together. And that ain’t a bad thing, I reckon. Brings a community together, gives them somethin’ to root for. Just like when we have the county fair, everyone comin’ together, havin’ a good time.
Anyways, that’s all I know about Dudley High basketball. Probably more to it, but that’s all this old brain can handle. Just a buncha kids playin’ a game, tryin’ their best. And that’s all you can ask for, ain’t it?
Remember, whether it’s basketball or farmin’, you gotta put in the effort, work as a team, and never give up. That’s what I always say, and I reckon it applies to just about anything in life.
