Alright folks, grab a coffee ’cause I sat my butt down yesterday to slap together that basketball update you saw. Started like most things do these days – way past midnight, laptop glare burning my eyes. Figured I’d whip it up real quick before bed. Yeah, right.
Hitting the Bricks First
First damn thing? Gotta find the scores and stats, right? Hopped onto that local Jyväskylä sports forum I always lurk on. Scrolled… and scrolled… damn forum layout changed again. Took like fifteen minutes just to find last weekend’s game threads buried under arguments about team snacks. Found the main game posts eventually. Copied the final scores into my draft:
- Pantterit 84 vs. Honka 79
- Jyväskylä Wolves 102 vs. Seagulls 95
- … and like three more games
Okay, basics covered. But people want who did what, not just numbers.
The Grind for Player Juice
This bit sucks every time. Knew the official league stats site gets updated slower than my grandma walking uphill. Clicked over there anyway. Half the player stats were still listed as “pending” or some nonsense. Saw red for a second there. Went back to the forum threads, digging through pages of fan comments for mentions of top scorers, rebounds, that stuff. Jotted down the names popping up most:
- Scoring leader seemed to be that Matti S… guy? From the Wolves? Yeah, him.
- Heard someone mentioning Teemu P snagged like a million rebounds.
Figured I’d run with what I scraped together – official site be damned.
Staring Down the Spreadsheet Monster
Time to get it organized. Fired up that old, ugly spreadsheet I always use for this junk. Pasted the team names and scores in one column. Made another column for “Who Went Ham” based on my forum notes. Started filling it in:
- Jyväskylä Wolves: Matti S. – 28 points (according to forum)
- Pantterit: Aatu L. – 22 points & 10 boards
Took way longer than it should’ve, trying to match names and numbers from half-remembered posts. Spent an hour just realizing I forgot one whole game. Ugh.
Slapping the Words Down
Finally opened the writing app. Just started typing like mad to get it outta my brain.
Started with the biggest game first – Wolves vs Seagulls score, tossed in Matti’s points. Then did Panthers vs Honka, name-dropped Aatu L. Kept it moving down the list I made. Made sure to say “looked like…” or “folks were talking about…” since official stuff was MIA. Didn’t wanna pretend it was gospel.
For Matti, I wrote something like: “Matti S. went OFF for the Wolves, lighting it up with 28 points if the forums got it right.” Simple, clear, no fancy words.
Wrapping Up the Mess
Added a quick line at the end like “Catch the next game at the arena!” or whatever, basic stuff. Glanced over what I wrote. Fixed a bunch of typos ’cause typing angry makes mistakes. Counted up the scores again from the spreadsheet to check against the first bit. Yep, matched. Slammed the ‘Publish’ button before I overthought it. Done and dusted. Posted it up and crashed. Another update thrown out into the wild, ugly but it works.
