Okay so yesterday I was super pumped to check up on Mayuka Aikawa’s tennis ranking since I’d been tracking her matches all season. You know how it is – you find a rising player and just gotta follow their grind. Grabbed my laptop around morning coffee time and headed straight to the WTA site.
Where I Started Hunting
First thing, I punched in “WTA live rankings” into Google. Page loaded slow as hell – probably everyone checking after that crazy upset last week. Scrolled past three ads that looked legit but were total clickbait trash. Finally found the actual rankings page and started scanning names alphabetically.
Started from the top 50 – no Mayuka. Got that sinking feeling like maybe she dropped? Scrolled slower past 100… 150… there! Saw her name jammed between some Russian player I can’t pronounce and a Canadian qualifier. Ranked 178 – up nine spots since last month! Did a little fist pump right there in my kitchen.
How I Dug Deeper
Wanted to know why the jump happened. Opened another tab to check her recent matches. Remembered she played that challenger event in Thailand two weeks back. Pulled up the tournament draw – turns out she made the semis as a qualifier! Beat the 3rd seed in straight sets too. No wonder the ranking bump.
Tried finding match highlights but YouTube only had like 30-second clips. Annoying! Saw tennis forum rumors about her maybe getting a wildcard into Wimbledon qualies but nothing official. Bookmarked a tennis news site that claims they’ll post wildcard lists next Tuesday.
My System For Tracking
Made notes in my tennis spreadsheet like always:
- Current rank: 178 (career high!)
- Points gained: 48 from Thailand run
- Next tournament: Still unknown – probably grass court prep
- Injury watch: None reported after last match
Closed everything down feeling hyped. Gonna set a calendar alert for Tuesday to check those wildcard announcements. If she gets into Wimbledon quals? Man, that’d be huge for her ranking climb. Left a comment on her Insta post congratulating her on the new ranking – doubt she’ll see it but whatever.
