The Dexter hockey schedule, huh? Every season, it’s the same old song and dance trying to get my hands on that thing. You’d think it’d be simple, but nope. It’s like a secret mission just to figure out when and where my kid needs to be.
So, the first thing I did, weeks ago, was start checking the school’s athletic website. You know, clicking around, hoping the new schedule would magically appear. Nada. Just last year’s info, still sitting there. Real helpful.
My son, he’s all geared up, asking me every day, “Dad, when’s the first practice? Do we have the schedule yet?” And I’m there like, “Still waiting, champ.” It makes you feel like you’re letting them down, even though it’s totally out of your hands. The pressure is on us parents, I swear.
Then I heard from another dad, Tom, at the grocery store. He said, “Oh, I think Coach Johnson mentioned sending out a ‘preliminary draft’ soon.” A draft? What in the world is a draft schedule? Are the game dates still up for debate? It’s hockey, not some peace treaty negotiation. Just give us the dates!
So, I tried a different approach. I actually dug up the email for the athletic director. Sent a polite little message. “Just wondering when the Dexter hockey schedule might be available?” you know, keeping it light. Did I get a reply? What do you think? Crickets.
This went on for a bit. More website checking. More asking around. It felt like nobody actually knew, or if they did, they weren’t telling. It’s like Fort Knox, that schedule.
Then, finally, last Tuesday, my wife gets an email. Not from the school directly, mind you, but forwarded from another mom who’s super organized. And there it was. The schedule. In a lovely, easy-to-use PDF. Of course. Not a link to a calendar I can subscribe to. Oh no, that would be too easy. A static PDF.
So, my Tuesday night was spent squinting at this PDF. My next step was to manually, one by one, enter every single game, every practice, every team meeting into our family calendar. It took forever. Here’s what my evenings look like now, thanks to that PDF:
- 6:00 AM Wednesday practice – joy.
- Friday night away game – say goodbye to that dinner plan.
- Saturday tournament starting at 8:00 AM, an hour away – weekend, what weekend?
- Random team photo day I nearly missed.
And the best part? You just know it’s going to change. Someone will reschedule. An ice slot will get cancelled. So, I’ve got my digital calendar, sure, but I also print that PDF and stick it on the fridge with a pen tied next to it. Old school. It’s the only way to keep track of the inevitable “updates” that come via hurried text messages from other equally stressed-out parents.
But, hey, the kid’s happy. He’s got his jersey ready. He’s talking strategy with his buddies. So, all this running around, this schedule hunting, this data entry… I guess it’s part of the deal. At least until next season, when I’ll be doing this whole dance all over again. Wouldn’t miss it. Well, maybe just the schedule hunting part.
