Alright, alright, let me tell ya ’bout this tennis match, this Gauff versus Sabalenka thing. I don’t know much ’bout tennis, but I watched it, so I can tell ya somethin’.
So, this Gauff girl, she’s American, young thing, like my granddaughter. And Sabalenka, they say she’s the number one, big shot from somewhere over there, Belarus or somethin’. They was playin’ in the US Open, big deal, I guess.
First set, Sabalenka, she was hittin’ that ball hard, real hard. Gauff, she looked a bit lost, couldn’t keep up. Sabalenka took that first set, 6-2, easy peasy. I thought, “Well, that’s that. This Sabalenka, she’s too strong.” But hold on a minute!
Second set, Gauff, she woke up or somethin’. Started movin’ better, hittin’ the ball back harder. Sabalenka, maybe she got tired, I don’t know. But Gauff, she won that second set, 6-3. See? That’s why you don’t give up, even when things look bad. My old man used to say, “It ain’t over ’til the fat lady sings,” whatever that means.
Then came the third set, the decider, they call it. Gauff, she was like a different person. Runnin’ everywhere, hittin’ winners, makin’ Sabalenka work for every point. And Sabalenka, she started missin’, hittin’ the ball into the net, out of bounds. Gauff, she just kept pushin’, and she won that set too, 6-2. Can you believe it? Beat the number one player, after losin’ the first set. That’s somethin’, ain’t it?
- So, Gauff won, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. That’s the score, if you care ’bout that stuff.
- I heard they played again, in some other tournament, the WTA Finals. Gauff won that one too. Seven to six in the first set, then six to three in the second. Beat her again, that Sabalenka. Maybe she ain’t so number one after all, huh?
Now, they say Sabalenka, she won some big tournaments before, Australian Open, twice even, and another US Open. And she makes a lot of money, millions of dollars. Good for her, I guess. But Gauff, she’s comin’ up, that’s for sure. She’s gonna be a big star, you watch. Reminds me of that Serena Williams girl, the one with all the muscles. She was somethin’ else.
I don’t understand all the tennis talk, the serves and the volleys and all that. But I know a winner when I see one. And Gauff, she’s a winner. She fought hard, didn’t give up, and she beat the best. That’s all that matters, right? Like my grandma used to say, “it ain’t about how you start, it’s about how you finish.”
So there you have it, my take on the Gauff versus Sabalenka match. Just an old lady’s opinion, nothin’ fancy. But I saw what I saw, and that Gauff girl, she’s somethin’ special. Keep an eye on her, she’s gonna go places.
