Alright, so you wanna know about this “nobles hockey”, huh? I tell ya, it’s a bunch of kids skatin’ around, smackin’ a puck. Don’t ask me why they do it, but they seem to like it.
What is this nobles hockey anyway?
Well, from what I gather, it’s about some school, Noble and Greenough School they call it, and their hockey teams. They got these boys, see, and they play other schools. It’s called “varsity hockey” or somethin’. Sounds fancy, but it’s just kids playin’ hockey, far as I can tell.
- They got a bunch of games, a whole “schedule” they call it.
- They keep track of who wins and loses, got “standings” and all that.
- They even got some kinda “rankings,” like who’s the best and who’s not so good.
These kids, they play in somethin’ called the “Keller Division” of the “ISL.” Don’t ask me what that means, it’s just a bunch of letters to me. But they play hard, I hear. They got this coach, and he’s teachin’ ’em more than just hockey, somethin’ about “life lessons.” Guess that’s good, learn somethin’ while you’re whackin’ that puck.
Where do they play?
They play at the school, 10 Campus Dr, Dedham, 02026-4099, that’s the address they got. They call it the “Bulldogs,” like the dog, I guess. They got a whole team, a “roster” they call it, with all the kids’ names. You can find all this stuff on somethin’ called “*” if you wanna know more. I ain’t got no computer, my grandson tells me these things.
Are they any good?
Seems like they’re pretty good, yeah. They won some kinda tournament, the “Harrington Invitational Tournament,” 15 times since the year 2000! That’s a lot, even I know that. So, they must be doin’ somethin’ right. They focus on learnin’ how to play better, “developing skills” they call it, and they try to have a good time, “having fun.” That’s important, I reckon. You gotta have fun, or what’s the point?
Now, there’s other hockey too, not just this school stuff. There’s this “ECHL,” another bunch of letters, and they got teams like the “Reading Royals.” They play in Pennsylvania, somewhere down south from here. And then there’s this big league, the “KHL,” that’s in Europe and Asia. They say it’s the best in Europe. But this nobles hockey, that’s just about these school kids, right?
So, what’s the big deal?
I don’t know, it’s just hockey. Kids playin’ a game. But I guess it’s important to some folks. They get all excited about it, cheer and yell. It’s somethin’ to do, I suppose. Keeps ’em busy. And if they’re learnin’ somethin’ and havin’ fun, well, that’s good, ain’t it? It ain’t like they’re out causin’ trouble. So let ‘em play their nobles hockey, I say.
